Keeping a Shopify store even
- Shopify makes smaller copies of each image for the different parts of your theme, so one large square is enough.
- Use the same aspect ratio for every featured (main) image, so products line up in collection grids.
- Shopify lists PNG first and JPEG second as the best file types; this tool saves JPG, which keeps photos small.
Required and recommended
Required rules can get a listing rejected; recommended ones affect how it looks, for example zoom. Our photo check uses these:
- Up to 5000 × 5000 px (25 MP) (required)
- Smaller than 20 MB (required)
- 2048 × 2048 px square displays best (recommended)

Questions
How can I check my photos against the Shopify rules?
Open Shopify photos, add your photos and turn on “Just check my photos”: each one is checked as it is, and you see what passes and why the rest fail. It reads JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF photos. Turn it off to make a 2048 × 2048 px copy that is checked again.
Is PixListing free?
Yes. PixListing is free to use and needs no account. On the free plan you can add up to 30 photos at once, 50 MB each.
