Compress by
75

75 is a good balance. Lower = smaller file. PNG is always optimized losslessly.

Output format

Quality mode

  • JPG, WebP and AVIF are re-encoded at the quality you choose. Lower quality means a smaller file and less fine detail.
  • Encoders: MozJPEG for JPG, libwebp for WebP, libavif for AVIF, OxiPNG for PNG. These are the encoders used by Google’s Squoosh app.
  • PNG is optimized losslessly: every pixel stays the same, so savings are usually modest.
  • If the result would be bigger than your file, your original is kept.

Target size mode

  • Finds the highest quality that fits under your size, down to quality 30.
  • If that is still too big, the image is scaled down step by step and the final dimensions are shown.
  • A PNG that can’t fit is saved as JPG instead, or as WebP if it has transparency.
  • 1 KB is counted as 1,000 bytes, so the file also fits forms that count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes.
  • If the size can’t be reached, you get the smallest result and a note saying so.

Frequently asked questions

Will compression reduce image quality?

Lossy formats lose some fine detail. At the default quality of 75 it is hard to see in most photos; raise the quality if you need a closer match to the original.

What if the compressed file is bigger than the original?

Some images are already well optimized. In that case we keep your original file, so you never download a bigger version.

Is PixListing free?

Yes. PixListing is free to use and needs no account. Files can be up to 25 MB, 20 images per batch.
