Why convert AVIF to JPG?

More and more websites serve images as AVIF, but many apps, editors and upload forms still can’t open it. JPG opens everywhere.

What to expect

  • Transparent areas become white, because JPG has no transparency.
  • Wide-color and HDR AVIF images are shown in standard color in the JPG.
  • Only use images you have the right to use; a picture saved from a website still belongs to its owner.

Why is the JPG larger than the AVIF?

AVIF packs the same picture into fewer bytes than JPG. The JPG is a bigger file, but it opens in almost every app. Converting can’t bring back detail the AVIF already left out, so keep the quality high.
