Why compress to 1MB?
Some upload forms, help desks and email systems reject images above 1MB. Phone photos are often larger, but usually fit under 1MB at full size with a lower quality setting.
How the 1MB target is reached
- Quality is lowered until the file is 1MB or less, never below quality 30.
- If that is not enough, the image is scaled down step by step; the final dimensions are shown.
- 1MB is counted with 1 KB = 1,000 bytes, so the file also passes forms that count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes.
Frequently asked questions
Can every image be compressed to 1MB?
Most can. Large or very detailed photos are scaled down to reach 1MB, and you see the final dimensions. If a file still can’t reach it, you get the smallest result and a note.
